English language  requirements

Our classroom discussions, assignments, readings and assessments are all conducted in English. We need to ensure that you have the English language capability to succeed in your studies and fully benefit from our programmes.

The good news: There are multiple ways to demonstrate your English proficiency. Whether you have taken a standardised test, studied in an English-speaking country or completed your secondary education in English, we can work with you.

How can you demonstrate  English proficiency?

There are three main ways to prove your level of English:

Secure English Language Test (SELT)

Take a recognised English language test and achieve the required score. We accept multiple tests – choose the one that suits you best.

Admissions interview

Our admissions team will be able to assess your English ability through a conversation. An interview might be your best option if you are close to our required standard or unsure about formal tests.

Alternative qualifications

If you have a qualification from an English-speaking educational system, you may be exempt from testing. Please refer to the following list.

All qualifications must be achieved within two years of the start date of your course.

FAQs about English requirements

It depends on the test:

  • IELTS: Usually 13 days
  • TOEFL iBT: Usually 10 days
  • PTE Academic: Usually five business days
  • Duolingo: Usually 48 hours
  • LanguageCert: Varies by test centre

Plan ahead so you have results before your application deadline.

Absolutely. You can retake any test. Most people take the test they are most comfortable with. If IELTS did not work, you may wish to try TOEFL or Duolingo. Different test formats suit different people.

Your qualification must be achieved within two years of your course starting date. If it is older, you will need to take a new test or provide other evidence of your current English proficiency (like completing secondary education recently or an admissions interview).

All the tests listed (IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, LanguageCert, Duolingo) are available in Saudi Arabia or online. Duolingo is the quickest and most convenient if you want to test from home in Riyadh.

Yes. If you prefer not to take a formal test, schedule an interview with our admissions team. We'll assess your English through conversation. This works well if you are a natural communicator but anxious about tests.
